Scottish Premiership: Durán inspires Celtic to convincing victory after Dalglish ovation

  • Colombian opens scoring in 3-0 win against Aberdeen

  • Falkirk 1-2 Rangers; Kilmarnock 0-1 St Mirren

The Celtic striker Camilo Durán inspired the Scottish champions’ 3-0 win over Aberdeen, while Rangers snatched a 2-1 victory against Falkirk on Wednesday.

Durán has scored six goals in five matches for Martin O’Neill’s side after his latest eye-catching contribution at Parkhead. The Colombian netted in the 14th minute with the latest in his series of spectacular strikes since joining from Qarabag in the close-season. Durán collected Benjamin Nygren’s pass and unleashed a long-range drive that cannoned in off the crossbar.

Rangers crash out of Conference League in shootout loss to Czech side Jablonec

  • McInnes ‘mortified’ by early European exit

  • Brighton rout Tromsø 4-0 to reach league phase

Rangers were left reeling as they crashed out of the Uefa Conference League playoffs with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out defeat to Jablonec.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg at Ibrox last week, Derek McInnes’s side turned in a turgid performance in Czechia which lacked creativity and invention. It proved costly as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Stadion Strelnice, drawing 1-1 on aggregate after extra time to set up the final shootout.

European playoffs: Rangers scrape first-leg win as Brighton draw in Norway

  • 10-man Rangers hang on for 1-0 win against Jablonec

  • Tromsø 0-0 Brighton; Hearts 2-2 Rapid Vienna

Ryan Naderi’s second-half strike gave an unconvincing Rangers a narrow 1-0 win in the first leg of their Conference League playoff tie against Czech side Jablonec at Ibrox. Derek McInnes got his first win as Rangers manager at the fifth time of asking with a 5-1 thumping of St Mirren on Sunday but there was regression in the goalless first half which brought boos at the interval whistle.

The Govan side pepped up after the break and Naderi opened the scoring from close range in the 50th minute but in the 78th minute the substitute Cammy Devlin was sent off – minutes after coming off the bench – for a high tackle on Jiri Slama to leave Rangers to see out the game with 10 men.

Derek McInnes suffered a damaging home debut as Rangers manager with a 2-1 Premiership defeat to Hibernian compounded by striker Youssef Chermiti being carried off the pitch on a stretcher.

Iheanacho’s late VAR penalty hands Celtic a dramatic comeback victory at Motherwell

Kelechi Iheanacho scored a penalty winner nine minutes into stoppage time after a video review, boosting Celtic’s Premiership defence thanks to a comeback win at Motherwell as the most dramatic title race in decades took another sensational twist.

Iheanacho slotted in a spot-kick after the former Hearts midfielder Sam Nicholson was penalised for handball after jumping to head the ball away. The ball appeared to hit his raised hand right in front of his head.

Scottish Premiership: Rangers hit Falkirk for six to keep pace with Hearts and Celtic

  • Danny Röhl’s side storm back to win 6-3 after trailing 2-0

  • Saturday scores: Hearts 3-1 Motherwell, Celtic 1-0 St Mirren

Rangers fought back from two goals down to keep their Scottish Premiership title charge alive with a frenetic 6-3 win at Falkirk.

Danny Röhl’s side trailed to goals from Ben Broggio and Finn Yeats in a shambolic first-half performance but Tochi Chukwuani gave Rangers hope with a controversial goal just before the interval. Three goals in 11 minutes early in the second half then turned the tide in Rangers’ favour. Youssef Chermiti equalised and Nicolas Raskin put Rangers ahead before Bojan Miovski grabbed the visitors’ fourth.

Scottish Premiership: Miovski raises Rangers to summit after two-year wait

  • Danny Rohl’s side move above Hearts on goal difference

  • Hibernian and Falkirk cement top-six spots

Danny Rohl told his Rangers players to stay “on the front foot” in the Premiership run-in after a 4-2 win over Dundee United took the Gers top for the first time in more than two years. Goals from Ryan Naderi, Dujon Sterling, Thelo Aasgaard and substitute Bojan Miovski proved too much in the end for the visitors, who scored through Amar Fatah and Zac Sapsford.

Rangers were 13 points behind Hearts when Rohl took over as manager in October, but they lead the Jambos on goal difference with six games remaining, albeit their rivals have the chance to go back to the top when they travel to Livingston on Sunday. Third-placed Celtic, five points behind their Old Firm rivals, face Dundee at Dens Park later the same day.

Scottish Premiership: Celtic stumble in title race with damaging loss at Dundee United

  • Oisin McEntee hits late Hearts winner against Dundee

  • Rangers cruise to comfortable 4-1 win over Aberdeen

Slipshod Celtic stumbled in this season’s compelling Scottish Premiership title race with a damaging 2-0 defeat by Dundee United at Tannadice.

The pressure was on Martin O’Neill’s side after the leaders, Hearts, and title-challenging Rangers both won on Saturday, but they meekly failed to meet the challenge. On a poor Tannadice pitch, the Hoops were shaken by a Will Ferry goal in the 51st minute before Emmanuel Agyei drove in a second in the 63rd minute.

Scottish Premiership: O’Neill says Celtic need ‘to get some people in’ despite rout of Dundee United

  • Celtic win 4-0, equalling biggest victory of the season

  • Bowie scores equaliser as Hibs and Motherwell draw 1-1

Martin O’Neill warned Celtic could be in trouble if they do not strengthen their squad despite resuming his supervision of the team with a 4-0 victory over Dundee United. A dominant display seemingly banished concerns there might be lasting damage from Wilfried Nancy’s brief but torrid tenure, when Celtic lost six out of eight games.

O’Neill returned to oversee a first clean sheet since his final game in caretaker charge and equal the two biggest wins of the Premiership season, which also came under his watch. Two first-half goals in five minutes, from Yang Hyun-jun and Arne Engels, sent Celtic on their way, with substitute Benjamin Nygren and Daizen Maeda scoring after the break. “We played really well,” said the 73-year-old. “It was nice to see players performing well, playing with confidence, and it was just nice to win.”

Scottish Premiership: Celtic rally to beat Livingston and close on Hearts

Benjamin Nygren struck twice as Celtic won 4-2 at Livingston after twice equalising in a frantic opening 10 minutes, a result that reduced Hearts’ lead to three points on the back of their lunchtime defeat at Hibernian.

The left-back Cristian Montano twice put Livi ahead, only for Nygren and Yang Hyun-jun to equalise. The Sweden midfielder put Celtic in front in the 31st minute and an Arne Engels penalty gave them some breathing space before the break.
