War review – Sienna Miller and Dominic West’s hellish divorce drama is massive, massive fun

This brilliant piece of balderdash – packed with money, class warfare, sex and dastardly lawyers – is the perfect antidote to life right now. We need this!

War … what is it good for? At last, we have an answer: delivering eight hours of high-quality balderdash direct to your TV screens for your glorious delectation. Hurrah!

For War, you see, is the name of George Kay’s latest venture. As the creator of, among many other things, two series of the impeccably preposterous Hijack, you know you are in for a rollicking treat. And so it proves with this story of two horrible rich, famous people, divorcing in the public eye and battling it out in court via two teams of even more horrible, rich lawyers with everyone bent on doing as much harm to the other side as possible.

‘I’d strip for £100!’ Dominic West and Sienna Miller on nudity, narcissism and their juicy new show War

The stars are no strangers to public scrutiny of their most intimate relationships – but they’ve never experienced anything like this. They talk about playing a famous divorcing couple, and how money makes things revolting

In a London hotel room, Dominic West is weighing up how much he would accept to strip to his socks. In the new series War, West plays a social media billionaire who is supposed to be fairly decent, though there’s one excruciating scene – goading someone to strip for money – that reveals he’s definitely also a bit of a git. “That, I suppose, is the kick billionaires must get: that people would do anything for money,” he says. He wonders what his price would be. His co-star Sienna Miller laughs and says he’d do it “for the lols”, and West grins and says: “No, I’d want three figures. A hundred quid.”

War is a juicy eight-part legal drama, where Miller and West are a divorcing couple – she a narcissistic film star, he said billionaire – so just about all their scenes together are suppurating with contempt, which is fun, but also a bit of a shame because they have such good chemistry. They first worked together 21 years ago in the West End production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It. “So we had a history, which was great,” says Miller. There have been many times she’s gone into jobs where “on the first day you’re married to someone and you don’t know them. It’s helpful to have some sort of rapport.”

Russian stadium says it will not host Kanye concerts – but promoter says shows have not been cancelled

The controversial rapper now known as Ye was due to play two huge shows at St Petersburg’s Gazprom Arena, which now states it cannot host performances for contractual reasons

The St Petersburg stadium that was set to host two concerts by Ye – making the rapper formerly known as Kanye West the biggest western act to play in Russia since start of the Ukraine war – has now said that the concerts will not take place at the venue, although the promoter has stressed that they have not been cancelled.

Gazprom Arena had previously posted on social media saying that “the most influential musical artist of our time” would perform there on 10 and 11 October. “This is no joke!” the post stated. The event sold out immediately, including tickets priced at £1390 ($1896).
